BTYFC A Squad 1 - 2 Corsham

Firstly, a big thank you to Olly for his first go at reffing - a fantastic job. This is on top of all the help he gives at training and on match days to help our kids get better at football. THANK YOU OLLY! Thank you also to parents for helping support the team and packing away at the end.

Unfortunately, this was a rather dreary and lifeless match. We lost, not because Corsham were better individual football players than we were, but they played together as a team. They encouraged each other, talked to each other, covered for each other. They played the simple pass to put others in good goal scoring opportunities. Our B team worked together like this earlier on Saturday morning (WARNING: please see Blog Post below regarding U11 team Selection!!). In front of our defence we had 4 players who, for most of this game, forgot that they had team mates. We can, and will, do better.

Star performers: George F and Jonno (again). Well done Ben for his goal - from a corner!

Planning for Next Season

U10 managers met last week to discuss arrangements for next year. As Under 11s, we will be on larger pitches and play 11 a-side. Squads will be streamed. We are expecting all matches to be on Saturdays

RECRUITMENT
We are likely to have 40 of our current players signing on for next season. We felt this is too few for 3 squads, but probably too many for 2 squads. Therefore we intend to launch a recruitment drive. I have produced and will circulate after the Easter holidays a flyer which will be sent to schools. We need between 5 - 10 more players. On Sat 9th May we will hold a taster training session for interested players. So please spread the word and let everyone know that they can come along and have a taster session.

REGISTRATION
Registration forms will be given out with all relevant details, and these will need to be completed and handed back with photos, cheques etc. Newcomers will be able to collect registration forms and details on the taster day on 9th May. Mike King will oversee the registration process, remember the earlier you get yours done the easier it is for all of us!

U11 TEAM SELECTION
As a result of registration and performance this season, players will be streamed and teams will be selected by the current coaching staff. It was felt strongly by all coaches that due to significant development of some players in B, C & D squads, that there could be significant movement of players between the existing squads. I have been invited to look at 10 players from other squads in particular who should be pushing to get into the A squad next year. This clearly could have an impact on some currently in the A squad - a few more games left to make a case for being in the A squad next season!!

TOURNAMENTS
It was decided that (mainly due to the season being dragged out due to the number of postponed games still having to be played) no squads intend to enter any tournaments this summer. However we will have one BTY FC tournament day an Winsley probably on Sat 23rd May. This will be for the U10 teams we have all encountered this season. In addition to giving our players some fun and challenging football, it should also allow us to earn some money to put towards the U11 Tour. Some organisation, administration and officiating will be required by U10 parents.

Warminster 2 - 3 BTYFC A Squad

The optimism of a splendid victory last weekend and a glorious spring morning in Sutton Veny was shattered after a dismal first half 25 minutes. We were less than half-hearted, missed out on every 50:50 ball and lacked any drive or determination. At the break Warminster were well worthy of their 2-0 lead. In the second half we were like a different team – the energy levels, the composure on the ball, the desire to compete, the simple passing and the good use of space all returned. With three goals in the second half – two from Marco and one from Cam – we showed the importance of never giving up. A much improved individual performance from Marco in the second half had a big impact on the outcome of this match.

Well done to all players - in the second half.

And so we march on. If we look back at the way this season has gone so far, the team should rightly be proud of the progress made: LLLLDDWDDWW. We haven’t lost since the 15th November. However, 5 matches left and there are some big challenges ahead – especially against Melksham and Chippenham. But as they say – we’ll take each game as it comes!

BTYFC A Squad 6 - 2 White Horse Jnrs

A terrific first 12 minutes saw Bradford dominate the side that beat us 1-0 on the opening day of the season. The difference in this match was that we converted our possession into goals. Cam lead the scoring with a well struck low shot from just inside the box, followed by Ollie and then Ben. Inevitably, the three substitutions broke our flow a little and White Horse came back with a scrappy goal to make it 3-1 at half time. The second half began with White Horse taking a superb Ronaldo-style freekick that flew into the roof of the goal. Jack settled Bradford nerves with a well taken goal - having missed a few really good efforts. From then on White Horse were a spent force and the fresh legs of the three Bradford subs helped put the game beyond doubt with a couple of goals from Laurence and Ollie.

Well done to all players. Particularly well done to George F and Jonno at the back - who are developing a dependable Jagielka-Lescott partnership (sorry George F!), Ben who did a fanastic job of nobbling yellow boots every time he got the ball (so much so they they had to move him to a different position!), Ollie again for being the leader in the middle driving our game forward and jumping Jack flash who started to show some of his old form and pace again in front of goal.

A Squad Money

Just to let you know I am currently holding £25 for an end of season social (we can spend this how we like).

We will have another £25 left over from the Writhlington bookings - if we don't need the fourth session. The extra from the Writhlington bookings have arisen due to them having waived the £40 joining fee - don't know why but I am not going to push the matter!
